The start of the 2023 UKOPRA Offshore Championship is due to commence at Poole in less than a couple of months and teams that will be challenging for Class 1 honours have been testing this week.
Gary Aldington’s Vintage Torque had a successful run out in Falmouth, Cornwall on Tuesday after winter engineering upgrades to the Fabio Buzzi designed hull.
He told the UKOPRA website after the session:
“We have a good solid engine performance, now we can start dialing in the rest of the rig to start pushing the speed further and the team have started work on a new rudder.
Back-to-back testing on our old, cracked rudder and the replacement unit from FB Design is showing 2-3 mph loss of speed.
We had carried out mods to try and overcome it but in the usual Eastwood Racing way we have decided to start from scratch!
