Dry Martini is ready for the 2023 season

Jonathan and Hector Sainsbury will be campaigning the legendary Dry Martini in the Class 1 UKOPRA Offshore Championship this season.

And just to make sure that the Kiekhaeffer powered Cigarette doesn’t miss a beat, Mike Bontoft (below) ably assisted by Hector, has been working all winter on the boat that he originally restored to race at Cowes in 2010.

The engineer who is based in Poole, will also be on throttles this year while training Hector how to get the very best out of the veteran hull.

The team tested Dry Martini earlier this week and Hector told the UKOPRA website:

“The testing was a great success, all the mechanical work we have done the last few months has made the boat perform its very best.

“We are now focusing on keeping originality but perfecting that classic look, ready for all the spectators and followers to enjoy.

The boat finished second overall in last year’s championship with the crew of Bontoft, Michael Peet and Nigel Hopcroft, can new owner Jonathan Sainsbury go one better this season?
