Dean Stoneman made a return to offshore this season when he raced with Richard Carlton in the UKOPRA Class 1 championship, although he is better known for his success in motor racing.
In 2010 he secured the FIA Formula Two Championship which led to a test drive with the Williams Racing F1 team, however his plans for the next season were shattered after a testicular cancer diagnosis.
Following successful treatment, his return to racing fitness included his first foray into competition on the water in 2012 when he won the Powerboat P1 SuperStock UK championship.
The following year Stoneman returned to the track in the Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain taking 5 wins and was runner-up in the 2014 GP3 Series.
A move to the Andretti Autosport team a couple of years later saw him racing stateside in Indy Lights and in 2020 he added the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe championship to his motor racing CV.
Stoneman has decided to stay with powerboat racing for next season and has purchased a Fountain hull to compete in the UKOPRA Class 1 championship.
The US built boat will be powered by twin naturally aspirated 9.0 litre Mercury Racing 860 motors.
As yet it is undecided who will be in the cockpit in 2024 with the Southampton based racer and sponsors are still being sought.
